Frank Ashley Nelson American 1920-2007 Original watercolour on paper polo playing He was one of the finest representational artists of American Art.  A resident of Carmel and Monterey, California for the past few decades.  He was represented for over 50 years by the Zantman art gallery.  He served combat duty in England as a B 17 pilot, completing 25 missions.  He was awarded two distinguished flying crosses, a purple heart and four air medals.  He was discharged as a captain and after world war two he studied art at the academy of art in Chicago, then the Minneapolis art institute and the art student’s league in New York.  He was the recipient of numerous awards for his work and some of his finest pieces other than polo are of jazz musicians and horseracing.
